Is It Safe To Use Artificial Intelligence For Legal Advice In 2025?

Artificial Intelligence ("AI") seems to be everywhere these days. People use AI for all kinds of things. This leads to the question, why should I hire an attorney when AI can do it for me?

This is a dangerous question. While programs like Chat GPT or Google AI can be useful for getting some basic information, such as the meaning of "at-will employment," or "does my employer have to accommodate my disability," or what is a "reasonable accommodation," anything more complicated should no be entrusted to an AI program. Many such programs are geared more towards national, rather than state-specific, information. More importantly, these programs do not and cannot grasp the intricate details of the law, and generative AI programs can be subject to inaccuracies. Indeed, there have been several cases in which attorneys used AI programs that created false legal citations to back up an argument, only to be discovered when the judge read the brief and began to look for the non-existent case. You never want to go in front of a judge and misstate the law.

There are benefits to having an experienced, trained attorney who can review your case, provide you with advice, and provide you with zealous representation. While AI can offer some benefits in a legal context, it is crucial to approach its use with caution and a clear understanding of its risks and limitations

If you believe you have a legal claim relating to your employment, don't just ask an AI program. Call the Law Offices of Anthony J. Pantuso, III at 203-726-0284.
